| Hackberry: Governor Bobby Jindal marked the grand opening of Cameron LNG, a liquefied natural gas terminal that creates 60 new jobs at an average salary of $63,000 plus benefits and represents a $900 million capital investment. Cameron LNG in Hackberry is a subsidiary of Sempra LNG, of Sempra Energy, a Fortune 500 Company. Sempra Energy Chairman and CEO Donald Felsinger also joined the Governor at the official grand opening of the facility today, following the initial start of operations there in July.
Governor Bobby Jindal said, “Sempra Energy’s decision to invest $900 million and establish Cameron LNG in Southwest Louisiana is building upon this region’s terrific economic momentum. We have recently announced several major projects in Southwest Louisiana including Shaw Modular Solutions, the Northrop Grumman KC-10 contract and now, the official start up of Cameron LNG. These announcements reflect the comprehensive reforms we have made to Louisiana's business climate, which have enabled our state to continue successfully attracting companies during this time of national economic downturn.”
The Cameron LNG terminal is located along the Calcasieu Channel near the Gulf of Mexico and is capable of delivering 1.5 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day. It is also situated near a pipeline hub that serves approximately two-thirds of all natural gas markets in the U.S.
“As we celebrate the completion of Cameron LNG and look to the future, it is important to emphasize that the success of this project was a team effort and it took the coordination of many people, including the Governor and local and state officials,” said Felsinger. “It also required leaders with a vision, who understand what free markets can do to create jobs and improve the economy.”
Since 2004, Sempra Energy and its subsidiary companies have invested nearly $1 million in partnership with organizations in Southwest Louisiana. This community outreach includes promoting environmental stewardship, supporting local schools, and strengthening economic development.
“I am delighted that this project is now fully operational and I look forward to strengthening our partnership with Sempra and its subsidiary companies as we move forward,” said Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Stephen Moret.
