Interstate 310 Hale Boggs Memorial Bridge to Close this Weekend

For Release On:

October 29, 2009

Baton Rouge: The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced that the Interstate 310 Hale Boggs Memorial Bridge will close from 4 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, October 31, and from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday, November 1, while crews install a cable saddle that will allow for the installation of temporary bridge cables while new permanent cables are being installed.

The closure includes both the northbound and southbound lanes of I-310 at the Hale Boggs Bridge. The detour routes are the U.S. 90 Huey P. Long Bridge or La. 3213 Mississippi River Bridge in Gramercy.

This work is a part of a $30.5 million project to replace all 72 bridge support cables on the half-mile-long cable stay bridge. Work on the project began in September 2009 and is scheduled to finish in September 2011.

DOTD will have message boards in place to help inform drivers of the closures. Drivers can also access information on statewide traffic and road conditions by visiting the 511 Traveler Information Web site at www.511la.org, or by dialing 511 from your telephone.
