The Louisiana Vital Records Registry maintains death records only for deaths that occurred in Louisiana. Currently, the Louisiana Vital Records Registry maintains death records from 1957 to the present. Death records older than 50 years are available at the Louisiana State Archives.
Louisiana is a "closed record" state. This means that birth and death certificates are not public records. Information on obtaining death certificates, forms, instructions, who can order documents, list of regional offices, fees and payments is available from the Vital Records Registry at

You may complete an application for a certified copy of a birth certificate, bring your photo identification and correct fees to the Vital Records Central Office or a Vital Records Service Center.
