| Purpose/Function | In 1981, the State of Louisiana's legislature created the Louisiana Seafood Promotion & Marketing Board with statute R.S. 56:578.2(A)(1), to support their vast historical commercial fisheries industry. Although seafood had grown from a subsistence economy to a world class operation, it was challenged by dramatic changes in the marketplace and in the environment. The influx of imported seafood was one of the major challenges that this board was created to contend with. |
